We have a cockapoo that has got to have the most precious personality a dog could ever have.  He has one flaw though.  He wants to kiss everyone.  Beware if you are not paying attention and yawn when he is close by!  He’ll have you kissed in a second flat!

If you have a lovable pooch too and want to make some special homemade dog treats for him or her, here’s an easy recipe for homemade dog treats.  By making your own dog treats, you’ll not only be making your doggie very happy, you will save money too.  You can’t beat that combination!

Oatmeal Apple Cookies for Fido

  • 2 cups regular whole-wheat flour
  • 2 cups Old Fashioned Rolled Oats
  • 1-1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup minced apple (with or without peeling)
  • 3 Tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 Tablespoons honey
  • 1 Tablespoon ground cloves

Place all above ingredients in a large bowl, and mix thoroughly to combine.  Roll dough on floured surface to about 1/4-inch thick.  Using a cookie cutter, cut into shapes.

Combine left-over dough scrapes and roll out again to cut, repeating until all dough is cut into shapes of your desire.

Place cookies on ungreased, foil-lined baking sheets, and bake in 375 degree oven for 30 – 35 minutes.

Makes 5 to 6 dozen dog treats.
