Stay in a Hotel Nearby or In Another Cool Location
Being in a hotel is great when you need a break but can’t travel a great distance. They provide a change of pace, pamper to your needs, and take you away from the hustle and bustle of your demanding schedules.
If you’re planning some hotel family breaks for the entire family, choosing a fun city nearby with fun things to do for kids allows you the opportunity to step away from the hotel and do some sightseeing, but even just staying in all inclusive family resorts for a few days can offer tons of fun activities just within the confines of the resort.
One of my most favorite family breaks was when my widowed mother-in-law was re-married to a wonderful man at Myrtle Beach a couple years ago.
All the various family members stayed in the same all inclusive beach resort for a few days before and after the wedding, and while we had access to the sandy beaches, local attractions, and miniature golf courses all throughout Myrtle Beach, our resort had so many things to do that we wouldn’t even have needed to have gone out. We did go out… some. We just didn’t NEED to.
We also had a lot of fun together ordering and eating pizza in the hotel rooms together at night.
Short family breaks sometimes include pizza in the hotel room!
You can find cruise packages available for short periods of time and can even find 2 day cruises for those who don’t have more than that to spend.
If you’re even more strapped on time, consider an afternoon or nighttime sightseeing cruise, and combine that with an overnight stay at a lakeside or bayside hotel and other activities.
Some online travel sites and even cruise lines themselves offer cheap weekend cruises, so even if your budget is tight and you need to focus on cheap weekend family breaks, a weekend cruise could be an option for a short family break.
Follow a Guide For 3 Day Vacations in a Nearby Region or Popular City
It’s easier than you think to see a city in 2 to 3 days, but you need to do some research early on and pick a city that has attractions, events, sports teams, or activities your family members might enjoy.
You’ll also want to sit down with a pencil and paper well in advance and create a firm or semi firm vacation itinerary that will keep your schedule on track when sightseeing or participating in local events.
Put those 3 day family vacation ideas onto paper, give them all good thought to see what works best and what to avoid, and then organize what you have so you can make the most of your family getaway time!
There are lots of culture things to do in NYC, historical things to do in Boston, free things to do in Washington DC, recreational things to do in Minnesota, and lifelong exciting things to do in England.
In fact, there are random things to do all over the place, regardless of where you live, what’s close to you, and whether you chose to spend your short vacation or weekend getaways in a big city or in the countryside.
When choosing where to go or what to do for short family breaks, always consider your family’s interests and needs first and foremost.
After all, if you’ve only got a short time to enjoy life and veg out together, you’ll want to make sure you’re somewhere they want to be doing something they want to do!
Otherwise, it will be a long trip for everyone involved! 🙂
